Classroom Connections
Flyer Enterprises strives to provide unparalleled experiential business education to University of Dayton student
through practical experience in workplace and by providing academic opportunities in the classroom. The corporation
offers experiential learning by offering students a practical experience. Flyer Enterprises partners with classes to
provide students a hands-on learning approach by affording students an opportunity to see their classroom projects put
into action.
Marketing 2.0: Flyer Spirit and MKT 350
Flyer Spirit partnered with Instructor Irene Dickey and her internet and e-marketing class in the spring 2009 semester tap into the e-world. The class worked on e-marketing campaigns with the goal of boosting Flyer Spirit’s presence on the Web and ultimately increasing sales. The students conducted the research and created an implementation plan for Flyer Spirit’s e-marketing initiatives.
Students developed three campaigns: a search engine marketing campaign with Google Analytics, a Facebook advertising campaign, and an e-mail strategy campaign. At the end of the semester, the groups presented to the Flyer Spirit management team and implemented some of the students’ ideas.
The classroom connection started in the fall of 2008 when previous CEO Lauren Clarisey, who previously completed the course, suggested to Flyer Spirit to team up with the class. At this point, Flyer Spirit was providing patrons with e-commerce on the Web site. At the end of the fall semester, teams presented search engine optimization and direct e-mail campaign to the Flyer Spirit management team.
Since e-marketing is always changing, Flyer Spirit hopes for a long-term connection with the e-marketing class in order to continue developing, changing and adjusting as necessary.
Information Technologies: IT Group and MIS 366
When the Flyer Enterprises Information Technology Group formed in February 2008, they partnered with Dr. Jeffey Hoffer’s
business intelligence class for some guidance and direction. One of the projects that students worked on in the class included
the creation of a database for Flyer Enterprises divisions to track, store and analyze sales and labor data. The IT Group put
the classroom project to good use, and the project exploded into a data warehouse of information. Flyer Enterprises now uses
the database to analyze past trends and predict future ones, and they take that information to improve business processes and
daily operations.
Another connection that resulted from working with the Dr. Hoffer is a partnership with Tableau Software, company
that provides financial analytics and data visualization software. Tableau gave Flyer Enterprises free in exchange for the opportunity
to write a case study on Flyer Enterprises’ experiences with the software.
With massive amounts of information to serve the needs of
Flyer Enterprises divisions, the IT Group needed to find a better way to effectively complete service requests. E-mailing back and worth
was becoming a hassle. So Flyer Enterprises developed a reporting Web site to assign and complete requests. Information is being processed
quicker and more efficiently than ever before.
